Hivewire Hub — Your Apiary's Ears

The Hub is the listener in the bee yard: it hears every sensor, then carries the whole yard's story over the air to your gateway.

Hivewire Pucks and Scales speak over Bluetooth — great inside a hive, but short-ranged. The Hub sits in the middle of your apiary, continuously scans every sensor around it, and ships the readings onto Hivewire's long-range LoRa mesh radio, where they can hop from yard to yard until they reach a Hivewire Gateway and the cloud. One Hub covers a yard; a few Hubs cover a hillside. Housed in an IP65 weatherproof enclosure, it lives outside year-round on solar or USB power.

Works with a Hivewire Gateway and a Hivewire plan — you choose your plan when you activate your gateway.

How it fits

Sensors → Hub → Gateway → Cloud. Pucks and Scales broadcast readings over Bluetooth. The Hub collects them and relays over LoRa mesh — a license-free radio link that reaches up to about 3 miles in open line of sight, farther with a raised antenna (actual range depends on terrain). A Hivewire Gateway (sold separately) picks up the mesh and delivers everything to your dashboard and phone. If your hives are close to home, a Gateway in All-in-one mode can replace the Hub entirely; the Hub is for real yards — out-fields, rooftops, and everywhere WiFi isn't.

Built to not lose your data

  • Always listening — continuous long-range Bluetooth scanning picks up every Puck and Scale in the yard, with per-sensor tracking so a silent hive stands out on your dashboard.
  • Acknowledged delivery — every reading is sent over the mesh with acknowledgment and automatic retry. The Hub doesn't fire and forget; it makes sure the Gateway heard it.
  • Smart compression — send-on-change suppression and binary packing move a full yard's telemetry in a fraction of the airtime, which means longer battery life and a cleaner mesh.
  • Mesh relay built in — every Hub can also forward its neighbors' traffic. Set one on a fence post between yards and it hops the mesh over a ridge, no configuration gymnastics required.
  • Self-reporting — the Hub sends its own vitals (signal, battery, solar, uptime) alongside your hive data, so you always know the yard's infrastructure is healthy.
  • Set-and-forget updates — firmware updates arrive over the air; setup and diagnostics happen from your phone over the Hub's own WiFi hotspot.

Power options

Grid — USB power. If the yard has an outlet, that's all you need.

Standard Solar Kit — a 10 W / 6 V solar panel paired with a 15,000 mAh LiPo battery. Sized for typical sites: the panel tops the battery off by day, the battery carries the Hub through nights and cloudy stretches.

Solar Heavy Kit — built to power a Hub plus a Tempest weather station at a remote site: a 25 W / 12 V solar panel, a Victron 75/10 MPPT charge controller, and a 7 Ah LiFePO4 battery designed for years of deep cycling. It’s also the right pick for shaded sites and northern winters. Bonus: the Hub reads the Victron controller wirelessly, so panel wattage, battery voltage, and charge state show up right on your Hivewire dashboard — you’ll know your power system is healthy without driving out to check.
