Puck Sensor
V3 · Temp · humidity · acoustics · coin cell · BLE
Pre-order now — the first wave is expected to ship November 2026. Early orders ship first; later orders join the next wave.
A coin-cell sensor that lives between your frames and streams brood temperature, humidity and colony sound around the clock. Its microphone hears fanning, activity and queen piping, so swarm prep gets flagged early.
Details
Know what your bees are doing without cracking the lid.
The Puck Sensor is a coin-cell-powered sensor that lives inside your hive and streams brood-nest temperature, humidity, and colony sound around the clock. Drop it between frames, pair it in the app, and your hive shows up live on your phone and at hivewire.us — vitals, trends, and alerts, all season long.
Works with a Hivewire Gateway and a Hivewire plan — you choose your plan when you activate your gateway.
Hear your colony, not just measure it
The Puck doesn't just log temperature. Its onboard microphone listens to the hive and breaks the colony's hum into the bands that matter to beekeepers — fanning, worker activity, and queen piping. Hivewire's cloud analytics turn that signal into early warnings, including a swarm-preparation detector that flags rising piping activity before the swarm leaves. It's the difference between finding an empty box and getting there in time.
Built for real beekeeping
- Brood-nest vitals, 24/7 — precision temperature and relative humidity from inside the cluster, where it counts.
- Colony acoustics — fanning, worker, and piping bands plus advanced sound fingerprinting for Hivewire's hive-health detectors (queenless, brood thermoregulation, swarm prep, and more).
- Up to 4 Pucks per hive — one in each brood-box position on a double deep, so you can see where the winter cluster is sitting without opening the hive.
- Months of monitoring on one coin cell — runs on a standard CR2032 you can swap in seconds. Battery level reports right to your dashboard.
- Set-and-forget updates — firmware updates arrive over the air. No cables, no pulling Pucks from hives.
- Smart alerts — get a push notification when temperature, humidity, or sound patterns drift from your hive's learned normal.
How it connects
The Puck broadcasts over long-range Bluetooth (BLE 5) to a Hivewire Hub or Gateway (sold separately), which relays your whole yard's data to the cloud over LoRa mesh, WiFi, or cellular — so even a remote out-yard with no internet stays connected. View everything in the Hivewire iPhone or Android app, or any web browser.
